This painting is about the diversity in the Deaf community vs. Alexander Graham Bell Association. The Deaf Salad has a variety of vegetables in the bowl. Lettuce (Deaf), Tomato (Hard of Hearing), Onion (CODA), Celery (Oral), Cucumber (Hearing), Red Bell Pepper (Interpreter) and Carrot (Late Deafened). They are Deaf and are Deaf minded and hearted. While Alexander Graham Bell’s dream salad only has cucumbers. The cucumbers are hearing and all are professionals who support only speech and listening and leaving out American Sign Language. Their salad is tasteless and boring. Clayton Valli taught about ‘Deaf Salad vs. AGBell’s Dream Salad at Gallaudet University.
